New Southwest Credit Card Offers Companion Pass and 30,000 Points

One of my favorite parts of shopping for flights is a good deal, and nothing beats BOGO deals (Buy One Get One). Southwest credit cards from Chase are currently offering a Companion Pass (taxes and fees start from $5.60 one way) for a year and 30,000 points (worth around $450 for travel).

Here are the 3-credit cards that are currently available with the offers:

Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus

  • Annual Fee: $69

  • Sign-up Bonus: 30,000 points plus a Companion Fare valid through Feb. 28, 2024 after spending $4000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening. Offer expires March 13, 2023

  • Primary Perks: Offers 2 EarlyBird check-ins and 3,000 points every card anniversary

This card is great for infrequent travelers, and the 3,000 points (worth about $45 in travel) annually helps offset the $69 annual fee. Its a great card if you're not sure about how much you will travel, but would like to try out the southwest companion pass.

Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier

  • Annual Fee: $99

  • Sign-up Bonus: 30,000 points plus a Companion Fare valid through Feb. 28, 2024 after spending $4000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening. Offer expires March 13, 2023

  • Primary Perks: Offers 2 EarlyBird check-ins and 6,000 points every card anniversary. Unlimited TQP earning: 1,500 for every $10,000 spent

If you frequently fly southwest, this might be the card for you. With 6,000 points (worth around $90), it brings the annual fee down to $9 if you decide to fly once a year.

Southwest Rapid Rewards Priority

  • Annual Fee: $149

  • Sign-up Bonus: 30,000 points plus a Companion Fare valid through Feb. 28, 2024 after spending $4000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening. Offer expires March 13, 2023

  • Primary Perks: Offers 4 upgraded boarding per year, $75 annual Southwest credit for flights, and 7,500-point anniversary bonus, and unlimited TPQ earning: 1,500 for $10,000 spent

For those southwest loyalist, this card might be a good take. With the $75 bonus, it brings the effective annual fee to be $74. The 7,500 point bonus is worth around $112, essentially paying you $38 to keep the card along with the other benefits and perks. All three credit cards offer identical sign-up bonuses. The 30,000 points and companion pass through Feb 28, 2024 makes it ideal for those planning to travel a few times with a friend or companion during this time. This makes it easy to get 2 people to travel for free by paying points and miles for one ticket, and the companion pass the other.
